Avamere at Rio Rancho Couple Celebrates 70 Years Together


Avamere at Rio Rancho, a senior living community in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, recently celebrated a milestone for one of their resident couples. Manuel and Genoveva Alcon celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with on July 17, 2020.

The couple have quite a story. In 1949, Manuel began work at Genoveva’s brother’s sawmill in Mora, New Mexico. It was then they met and soon after got married on July 17, 1950 in Holman, New Mexico, a small town near Mora at The Sacred Heart Church.

Raising a family was the core of the Alcon’s life. Manuel worked in the school district and Genoveva was a homemaker and mother to four children. Her greatest joy was raising her family. Their family continues to be at the center of their lives and realize how lucky they are to have the Alcon’s as parents.

Nora Lucero, Avamere Executive Director, said, “The Alcons are such a loving couple. They brighten everyone’s day.” Having lived at Avamere for three years, all the staff have become part of their family.

Celebrating this special day with them are their children: Grace (Brian) Murray, Judy (Paul) Pacheco, Robert (Carmela) Alcon, and Jeanie (John) Abeyta. They also have three granddaughters, Allegra, Angelica, and Elisa, one great granddaughter, Aaliyah, and a grandson, Paul, who is deceased.
